El Gouna Film Festival Will Honor the Beloved British-French Star “ Jane Birkin “
Jane Birkin will be remembered not only as an iconic actress and singer but also as a symbol of freedom and creativity at the El Gouna Film Festival 2023

Months after her passing at the age of 76, the El Gouna Film Festival is set to give a special tribute to the British-French star, Jane Birkin, during its sixth edition taking place from October 13th to the 20th.
This year's festival will prominently feature four screenings of Jane Birkin's films, showcasing her extraordinary journey from her rise to stardom in the 1960s to her pivotal role as an emblem of rebellion, particularly through her iconic song 'Je t'aime... moi non plus.' Originally released in 1967, this song faced bans in multiple countries due to its perceived explicit content.
Marianne Khoury, the Artistic Director of GFF, underscores the significance of honoring trailblazers in the ever-evolving world of cinema. She states, “Jane Birkin was not only an iconic actress and singer but also a symbol of freedom and artistic innovation. Her contributions to the world of art transcended geographical boundaries and appealed to multiple generations, establishing her as an enduring and timeless figure in the realm of artistic expression
The selected films for this tribute include 'Boxes' (2007), 'Jane B. For Agnès V.' (1988), and 'Kung-Fu Master! (Le Petit Amour)' (1988). Additionally, the festival will screen 'Jane By Charlotte' (2021), a feature documentary directed by Jane Birkin’s daughter, Charlotte Gainsbourg, which delves into their unique mother-daughter relationship.
